How To Apply for Disability in Delaware
A citizen of Delaware can apply for disability benefits through the federal organization known as the Social Security Administration (SSA). Each state has its own divisions of the SSA and typically follows the same procedures throughout the application process for disability benefits. However, there can be slight differences between states. This page provides information and resources about Social Security Disability in Delaware.

Chances of Approval at a Hearing
People who attend an appeals hearing in front of a Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) in Delaware have a lower chance of approval for disability benefits compared to the national average. There is only one hearing office and 5 judges to attend reviews in Delaware. This creates a large back-log of denied applicants who are waiting for a hearing and increases the amount of time an individual has to wait. Delaware Vocational Rehabilitation Services
Many disabled individuals want to try to go back to work but are unsure if they can due to their condition. The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services of Delaware provides services that can help people with disabilities find and maintain a job in the work force. Any recipient of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) qualifies for these services. To receive assistance, one should contact their local VR office as soon as possible to get an appointment. Due to limited resources, there is a selection process that ensures the people with the most severe conditions are helped first.
