How To Apply for Disability in South Carolina
The application process in South Carolina is just like applying in most other states in the United States. This is because Social Security Disability benefits are federal benefits provided by the government agency known as the Social Security Administration (SSA). However, there can be minor differences between states when it comes to chances of approval, state supplementation, etc. This page contains information and resources about Social Security Disability in South Carolina.

South Carolina State Supplements for SSI
As of 2015, the federal benefit rate dictates that a claimant of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can receive a maximum of $733 per month in federal benefits from the Social Security Administration (SSA). However, the majority of states in the U.S. offer an additional benefit known as state supplemental benefits. Typically these benefits are provided to individuals to compensate for their cost of living.
South Carolina provides state supplemental benefits through its Optional State Supplementation Program (OSS). Only disabled residents who are residing in licensed Community Residential Care Facilities are eligible for OSS. To find out if you qualify or would like to apply for OSS, contact the SC Department of Health & Human Services below.
